Booking hotels for my family

Somewhere along the line I got a reputation for being great at choosing hotels. Now my family comes straight to me every time they are going on a trip and asks me to choose the hotels. It's fun to go exploring travel sites but can be a little sad when you realise you aren't going on the holiday with family. I am pretty good at finding great deals on the big chains, but also on cool little local boutique hotels and bed and breakfasts. This blog has some of my tips for other people when they are booking hotels and accommodations.

How to Get the Most Out of a Motel

by Samuel Wood

People travelling by road prefer to spend their nights at motels. The facilities are designed to cater to the needs of travellers. They have adequate parking and extra amenities such as fuel stations and a garage for those that would want to repair their cars. Read the article below to learn how you can get the most out of a motel.

Due Diligence

Always conduct some due diligence before booking the motel. Examine its reputation on social media and travel blogs and check its rating on various travel apps. Some of your concerns should include these questions: Does the motel have ample parking? How secure is the facility? Is the motel conveniently located?

Arrive Early

If you are a first-time guest, arrive early at the motel. You will have ample time to examine the services provided and determine if you will spend the night at the facility. In addition, you will have time to refresh and socialise with other travellers.

Choosing a Room

Below are a few tips to help you choose a motel room:

  1. Go for a conveniently located room. For instance, a room located far from the bar would be quiet. You could also go for one with a balcony and a good view of where you parked your car.
  2. The room should be spotlessly clean. Check the sheets and towel. The bathroom should have running water and a working hot shower system.
  3. Check that the door lock is functional. Otherwise, you may lose your belongings.
  4. An air conditioning system would significantly increase your comfort, so make sure there is one in your room.

Socialise with Other Travellers

After a long day on the road, you would enjoy the company of other travellers over a cold drink. Some motels are a favourite for truck drivers, while others are frequented by tourists. Do not shy away from talking to new people. They are a vital source of information regarding current road conditions, alternative routes and vehicle maintenance.

Food and Drinks

Are you particular about your food and drinks? Well, you should inquire about the motel's menu. Alternatively, you could choose a motel with a kitchenette. In this way, you can make your food the way you like it.

Pricing

Most motels are competitively priced. Inquire what the price covers. Some motels will charge more if you need cable television, Wi-Fi, a coffee maker or fa ridge. If you are a frequent traveller, take advantage of loyalty programs and get discounts every time you visit the establishment.

Be courteous to motel staff and tip them for excellent services. Leave a review on your favourite travel app to help other customers who are interested in visiting the motel.
